After an extended series of parties, the ten-day-long opening extravaganza of the St Barth Photo Festival comes to a close. For the festival’s final celebratory evening, on December 02nd, the photographic works of Fred Meylan will be exhibited at Le Barthélemy hotel in his show entitled Swim For Ever.
With Swim For Ever, Meylan presents a series of photographs that celebrate the ocean’s strength, beauty, and power and its organic relationship with the human body. The French photographer began his career in the 1980s as a photojournalist, and it wasn’t until the 2000s when he took the leap to fashion photography, evidently successful development in his career as Meylan now photographs some of the top contemporary models in the fashion industry such as Kendall Jenner, Kate Moss, and Gigi Hadid. Fred Meylan set up his photography studio in Paris in 2013.
Primarily in black and white and cool tones, the high-resolution images of the body in the water capture the beauty of the sun and ocean, which work together to cast delicate mosaics over the body through the water’s reflections. Many of the photographs are shot from the perspective within the water, with the lens often placed on the water’s surface capturing two alternate worlds, the ocean floor and the view from above. The images capture the essence of summer and immerse the viewer underwater. The works play on the senses, portraying the light, cool, and relaxing feeling of water against the skin as you float through the ocean.
