South x Southeast photomagazine features fine art photography of the American Southeast. Be it images taken in the Southeastern U.S. by photographers from other locales, or images taken elsewhere by photographers who are from or reside in the region, SXSE is the eye of the American Southeast.
SXSE is a bi-monthly online/in print magazine and their May/June issue features the categories of Street Photography and Still Lifes, with work by Raymond Adams, Builder Levy, Maude Schuyler Clay, Rick Smith, and many others. They interview Andrew Owen, the director of LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph about their upcoming events. Tony Casadonte, of the Lumiere Gallery in Atlanta, interviews West Virginia photographer Stephen Lawson. And Judy Sherrod, a Texas photographer of note, takes us into the Arnold Newman exhibition at the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas in Austin. Images from the issue accompany this article.
In July they will celebrate their Second Anniversary with an issue curated by Nashville photographer Jerry Atnip. A call for submissions is open until May 27th for the following features: An Eye on the South, images of the South taken by photographers who reside outside the U.S., and A Southerner Abroad, images taken outside of the U.S. by residents/natives of the Southeastern U.S.
