Sotheby’s presents the sale of an important European Collection of Photographs in Paris on November 11th 2016, during the annual Paris Photo fair.
The exhibition for this upcoming auction, Photographs from Atkins to Warhol, Important European Collection, is open from Saturday 5 to Thursday 10th of November. The auction presents material spanning the full history of photography, from its birth in the 19th century through to the middle of the 20th Century.
The extremely rare album British Algae Vol. III by Anna Atkins, one of the first female photographers, is without a doubt the star lot of the classic section of the auction, with other important works such as the Dolron portrait Xteriors IV or European avant-gardism represented by Karl Blossfeldt, Rudolf Koppitz and Leni Riefenstahl. American examples include Alfred Stieglitz’s Steerage and a platinum print by Edward Weston.
