A set of 548 photographs taken by Edward Weston and printed posthumously by his son, Cole Weston, who is the only person authorized to work with his father’s negatives, will be sold at auction by Sotheby’s, New York, on September 30th, 2014. The estimated worth of this collection is between 2 and 3 million dollars. It contains several famous works by the American photographer, including nudes, desert landscapes, objects and portraits.
Recently, original Weston prints have sold at very high prices: “Nude” (1925) for $1.6m in 2008, “Nautilus” (1927) for $1.1m in 2010. Prints by his son Cole usually sell for between $3,000 and $20,000. The collection on sale tomorrow is thought to be the largest of its kind.
