This 30-year-old professional photographer spends most of his activity in various photographic competitions in which he has often been selected as a finalist. In 2018, he won the Italian portfolio of the Lumix Grand Prix.
The work presented at Si Fest focuses on the special rites of a Latin American culture in a small Mexican cemetery during the traditional “días de los muertos”. Currently in our globalised societies death and its image is, every day, more and more marginalised and materialised. This is how the traditional funerals of different cultures, with their post-mortem rituals, disappear more and more in favour of aseptised manifestations where the individual with his life and culture and even his memory evaporate, inside record time, in the form of smoke.
Lorenzo Zoppolato’s photographs are not only an obvious cultural testimony ; but, they bring through the lens a feeling, a sensitivity, an atmosphere and an emotional sharing for the readers who still have the courage to face images closely related to death and its environment.
