The marathon of photography festivals has begun ! The town of Sète is hosting for the third year in a row ImageSingulières. This reunion of photography, dedicated to documentary photography, has evolved and grown since it’s creating, but the leitmotif of the festival remains the same : bring together work that is engaging with quality content. The program by Gilles Favier, artistic director of ImageSingulières is the fruit of meetings and discoveries. With the development of new medias, the photographic exhibitions are logically enriched by other artistic fields, with notably the presence of videos and installations.
The stories touched upon for this year’s edition promise to be rich and varying, always revealing passion, revolt and indignation in the face of violence in today’s world, to injustices and misery, with, among others, work by Georges Georgiou, Jürgen Netzger, Vanessa Winship, Ludovic Carème, Dorothea Lange, and the collective Tendance Floue… Each year, the association CéTàVOIR, organizing the show, hosts a photographer in residence. After Sweden, France and the United States, Valérie Laquittant and Gilles Favier reached out to a Spanish artist, Juan Manuel Castro Prieto, who will soon deliver the fruit of his regard on the town of Sète. An impressionist regard in which the images will nourish the new edition of the book by ImageSingulières.
The show will run from June 2nd until July 10th 2011 in various spaces of the port town of Sète.
