For many reasons the National Museum of Singapore is proud to show the latest impressive work of Brazilian photographer Sebastiao Salgado, Genesis, already introduced by L’Oeil de la Photographie.
One of the reasons is that this is the first time that “Genesis” is being shown in Asia. Before this solo exhibition, some of Salgado’s prints have been seen here in Singapore, but never in a solo exhibition
Started ten years ago, “Genesis” is more than a series of black and white photographis, perfectly processed and printed, about wildlife and unapproachable landscapes or almost unknown human communities. As the title suggests, “Genesis” is one of the possible picture of the beginning humanity , that should be rediscovered and protected before it is erased forever.
The Salgado’s solo exhibition is just another of the great photography exhibitions curated at the National Museum of Singapore after the shows dedicated to Chang Chien-Chi and Abbas. Other big projects on photography are planned. The National Museum of Singapore should be proud.
