The German gallery Julian Sander proposes this Sunday a projection of The New York School, a film conceived by Michael Blackwood. The screening takes place as the gallery is currently displaying a show on Aaron Siskind.
The film focuses on the New York School, a group of artists among who photographer Aaron Siskind, painters Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko and Franz Kline, all attempted a new pictorial commitment in the 1940s and 1950s. The New York school took a significant part in emerging action-painting. Aaron Siskind was one of the only photographers to document the lives of these artists and the evolution of their works and thoughts .
