Exclusively on La Lettre, is the list of photographers selected for the first Photoreporter festival in Saint Brieuc. The winners will receive a grant to help them complete their projects. Festival director Didier Rapaud sent us the following text:
“I had the most terrible dream!
I was in a forest, surrounded by trees, and the trees were speaking to me—no, screaming at me:
“You only chose your pet photographers. It’s always the same, shame on you!”
“No, I didn’t vote! I’ve got nothing to do with it, I swear!”
But they wouldn’t hear it, and kept on,
“And you don’t even have the money you promised the photographers”
My awful dream turned into a nightmare… and I woke up with a jump:
I told myself that trees can’t speak, and if those weren’t trees, then they couldn’t have been people from the photography world, because everyone knows: in our profession, nobody holds a grudge. End of story.
I couldn’t respond to every photographer who asked me why they weren’t selected because I couldn’t reveal what went on behind closed doors in the jury room. But starting in June I’ll be taking applications for next year’s festival, which should be much more precise. I hope that we’ll break this year’s record of 300 projects by 280 photographers. So, make way for your ideas and dreams. Thank you everyone.”
The jury was presided over by Jean François Leroy, director of Visa pour l’image. Its other members were Ruth Eichorn, photo director of Geo Germany, and Guillaume Clavieres, photo director of Paris Match. They met on January 20 at the request of the director of the Photoreporter Festival, which will take place from October 19 to November 11, 2012.
They made their selection from 300 projects submitted by photographers across the world, taking into account both the value of the proposed subject and the budget requested for its realization.
