This first chapter tells of my arrival in 1960 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Breda in the photography section where I held in my hand for the first time a camera, the students in my class were already very experienced, I risked being eliminated by Christmas, my teacher Louis van Beurden had the idea of having me pose for the other students, that’s how I learned.
Peter Knapp the artistic director of Elle gave me the chance to publish my first photos, since we have never lost sight of each other. Shooting on a beach, my favorite studio, in prison in Italy for taking a topless photo. During the shoots for the Yves Saint Laurent campaign with Antoine Kieffer, great artistic director and friend.
My notebooks with the little polaroids and the essential photo team, the fashion photos are an addition of the efforts of the editorial staff, model, hairdresser, makeup artist, assistant, even the driver … we do not do them alone!
To conclude, 60 years later, the Stedelijk Museum Breda, 5 minutes from the school, is giving me a major exhibition!
