In July 2013, Sabine Guédamour visited the Hôtel du Panthéon to shoot this photograph, “La fleur de Morphée,” for PHPA. Also check out her series Consolation, composed of platinum-palladium images retracing the wild trails of the Val de Consolation in the Jura mountains.
“I had just picked up Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel, Sandman, which tells the story of the vengeful return of Morpheus, master of dreams. It was a sort of epiphany for me and served as my guide… I couldn’t stop daydreaming about what Morpheus would do in these hotels. Gradually, a story fell into place… My Morpheus would be my favorite model, my little brother, who was coming back from Asia and had some time to kill with his big sister. We looked all over the hotel and tried out every room. All the tarps, debris, tools and dust from the hotel renovations scared me a little, until finally we came upon this magnificent staircase…”
