Taryn Simon is an artist, performer, photographer and video artist. Born in 1975 in New York, she has produced an ambitious body of work, the result of a rigorous research process. Her work combines photography, text and graphics.
Taryn Simon pries open the doors of America, which cultivates secrets to the point of paranoia. She photographed the lobby of the CIA, ammunition testing fields, and the objects confiscated by border patrol agents.
Another series, A Living Man Declared Dead and Other Chapters, explores bloodlines across the world. In The Innocents, Simon stages photographs of people wrongly convicted in the United States, exploring the question of photography as proof, keeping in mind that throughout American history, people were executed on the basis of images alone.
