Raymond Cauchetier passed away, Vanessa Franklin & Xavier Mahé from Boogie Woogie Photography sent us this message:
Dear friends,
We are very sad to announce that Raymond Cauchetier passed away on Monday 22 February at the age of 101.
Raymond Cauchetier began taking photographs while working for newspapers in Indonesia in the 1930s. In 1950s and 1960s Paris, in association with radical film directors Jean-Luc Godard and François Truffaut, Cauchetier documented the dramatic flowering of New Wave cinema with iconic images that will be his lasting legacy.
We have lost a mentor and a friend. It has been an honour to exhibit his work for the past six years, during which we have appreciated his acute intellect and great charm.
Our thoughts are with his wife, Kaoru. May he rest in peace.
Best regards,
Vanessa Franklin & Xavier Mahé
