As part of the exhibition Ralph Gibson: The Trilogy, 1970-1974, The Eye of Photography is offering a special edition with a small retrospective of Ralph Gibson’s career. Here you can find a selection of his most beautiful images taken during the 1980s. Notably, those years saw the publication of the book Chiaroscuro, a lyrical photographic essay that celebrates the beauty of Italy in its contrasts of light and darkness. Gibson’s images of old architecture, arcades and mysterious passages, Venetian masks, and flesh capture the glory of Italian culture as well as the sensuality of its creators.
