On November 4, 2021, as part of Leica Camera AG‘s Celebration of Photography, renowned American photographer Ralph Gibson received the Leica Hall of Fame Award 2021 for Lifetime Achievement. He will also be honored by a retrospective exhibition, from November 5 to the end of February 2022, at the Leica gallery in Wetzlar. His photography is both unique and timeless; his style is incomparable. For more than six decades, Ralph Gibson has created a multi-faceted body of work, which is also directly associated with Leica. Early in his career he acquired his first Leica – an M2. Paid on credit and followed by many other models, this camera would play a decisive role in the realization of Gibson’s photographic vision.
“Throughout my career, when I get an award from time to time, I have noticed that it releases a tremendous creative energy in me. It encourages me to push myself, to go further and to do even more effort. It just so happens that it matches my state of mind at this time of my life. I therefore pay tribute to my former colleagues who won it. I am happy to be among them, “says Ralph Gibson, winner of the Leica Hall of Fame Award 2021.
The Leica Hall of Fame Award has been awarded since 2011 and rewards the body of work of a renowned photographer who works with Leica.
