« Hi Sophie
I applied to the Prix Virginia after seeing it in Le Journal and I just heard that I won with the Jones Family work! Crazy but it is a secret until the press are told on the 18th Oct!
I am sitting in Chicago airport waiting for my connecting flight to Austin Texas and eating a massive frozen yoghurt, feeling slightly odd as its like 3am or something UK time.
lovexxxx

Here’s the message that Liz sent a few weeks ago to tell me about her nomination for the Prix Virginia. Liz could be the reed in La Fontaine’s fable: it seems frail, falling, ready to collapse, but it resists with incredible force and stands up to the test of time. I met Liz more than ten years ago when I was an au pair at Oxford. Her simple message, sent from Austin, Texas, really touched me. It resembles her photographs. She exudes an overpowering essence of life that makes us believe that anything is possible. I wish her and the Jones family a nice trip!
Liz Hingley, 27, was born in Birmingham, UK. Le Journal published her work The Jones Family in May 2011 (see here). That same year, she received the Grants for Editorial Photography from Getty Images, and today she is the winner of the Prix Virginia, which gives her:
– 10,000€
– A published portfolio in M, the magazine of Le Monde newspaper
– An exhibition at the Hôtel de Sauroy from October 19 to November 30, 2012 (Tuesday to Saturday 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.)
Éditions be-pôles, publishers of the book collection Portraits de Villes, will give the winning photographer the carte blanche to photograph the city of his or her choice.
