The Grant Pierre & Alexandra Boulat 2013, supported by Canon France of 8 000 euros and given to a professional photo-journalist in order to allow him or her to produce a story for which he could not find support , has been given to Arnau Bach, a spanish photographer who presented a remarkable work in black and white on the Marseille suburbs.
“The Pierre & Alexandra Boulat Association award would allow me to explore, Marseille its poor suburbs, stigmatized by criminality, the traditional dwindling fishing industry ,and the inhabitants who have been forced to leave the popular areas of the center. It would allow me to show all the aspects of Marseille’s culture which have been excluded from the main events, to get close to the inhabitants and capture their hopes and frustrations from an intimate and personal perspective.” says Arnau.
The jury who met last friday morning was : Jean-Luc Monterosso (head of Maison Européenne de la Photographie), Jérôme Huffer (chief photo editor at Paris Match), Antoinette Boulat (casting director), Jean-François Camp (head of laboratory Central Dupon Images) and Christopher Morris (photographer from Agency VII).
The grant will officially be given to Arnau Bach during an evening show at Visa pour l’Image in Perpignan in september 2013.
