The impact of the photos! It’s true that it’s present in all of the images in the Paris Match sale at Cornette de Saint Cyr that is taking place today, 3rd May 2016. Look at the collection of images of Bardot; it’s a marvel. The magazine’s director, Olivier Royant, talks about the sale like this:
“At the dawn of its seventieth years and with this first auction of photographs in partnership with the auction house Cornette de St Cyr, Paris Match is paying tribute to the three generations of photographers who have been with the magazine since its creation. This homage extends to photojournalism, a profession we have loved and supported since 1949. The 145 photos put up for sale today are drawn from the fifteen million images that comprise the archives of our fabulous journalistic adventure. Each of them tells a story. Taking us behind the scenes of artistic creation, of the cinema and of its stars, of their great reporting of war, or of discovery, Match’s photographers follow each event with an insatiable curiosity, in the search for those genuine moments that, frozen on film, become slices of life. The famous and precious “decisive moment”, dear to the heart of Cartier Bresson, has sometime been grasped by our photographers on the margin of their reporting. Outside normal hours, outside their regular work, for pure pleasure. Forgetting that they are reporters, the photographers become sympathetic strollers. Their free and offbeat views of the people and situations provide unique testimony of the period and the atmosphere of the time. In a fleeting instant, the photo is then an eternity.”
