Nominated European Youth capital, Braga (Portugal) currently greets, the Encontros da Imagen. For this occasion, the chosen theme was ‘What Future’.
As explains Rui Prata, the director of the festival : “By building the project “What Future?” we intend to show a diversity of views on current youth with particular emphasis on documentary photography, as we believe it to be the one that best serves our purposes. Therefore, the set of exhibitions ranges on the various ways of representing youth.”
Which future for the ‘ Y’ generation ? Adolescence and the transition to adulthood are treated in different ways in the exhibition ‘Facing Youth’. The collective project bring together various view of photographers on the youth of today. From Zoe Vincenti’s tweens to young Lithuanian graduates, facing unemployement by Donatas Stankevicius, Teenagers ‘cliché’ in Patryk Karbowski’s pictures while Julia Peirone questions the identity quest and the metamorphoses. Belonging to a group and violating prohibitions will be find in Soraya Hocine’s work in London and Anna Psaroudakis’s pictures in Athens. In the same manner, Aki-Pekka Sinikoski depict Finnish teenagers with humour, by using an advertising aesthetic. Based in Italy Michi Suzuki portrays the Italian diversity. Finally, the school is also presents in Raimond Wouda and Vesselina Nikolaeva series. Marion Poussier brings her memories back to realize a project about summer camps.
