Capturing the spontaneity of photography before the advent of the delete button, the photo booth gives artists of all ages the opportunity to rapidly act out their own imaginative stories. Hands-on workshops organized at the Lycée Français of New York, The Bronx School of Young Leaders, and FIAF taught kids the century-long history of the photo booth, and how to compose a poetic photographic narrative in four frames and 16 seconds. Kids first sketched their compositions by hand and then brought their ideas to life during their own photo booth session. Their creations are the material heart of this exhibition, now on view at FIAF in New York. The most creative photo strips have been selected by a special jury to be enlarged and displayed in the gallery. Chosen by François Hébel, curator of this show, the jury was composed of well-known faces of the photo world: Quentin Bajac, Chief Curator of Photography at The Museum of Modern Art, Chris Boot, Director of Aperture Foundation, William M. Hunt, photography collector and curator, Susan Meiselas, photographer, Kathy Ryan, Director of Photography at The New York Times Magazine.
