In the middle of the 19th century, a tidal inlet in Brooklyn was transformed into the Gowanus Canal. The canal has had a checkered past, with an incredible amount of industry on it’s banks. These are photographs of the locations of companies that have had a lot to do with the current polluted state of the canal.
