Polaroid and Magnum announce emerging artists selected in joint open call, showcasing empathy and innovation in instant photography.
Polaroid and Magnum have unveiled the work of ten emerging artists chosen through their collaborative Open Call, spotlighting the unique storytelling and human connection fostered through instant photography. The selected artists’ works convey powerful narratives that challenge perspectives, exploring themes like migration, gender identity, and the experience of living with illness or separation from loved ones.
Under the mentorship of renowned Magnum photographers Enri Canaj, Jim Goldberg, and Newsha Tavakolian, these artists pushed creative boundaries using Polaroid’s new black-and-white film with the I-2 camera, designed for high-quality instant photography with advanced manual controls.
The featured artists—Jakub Stanek, Jaír Fernando Coll, Maria Beatriz de Vilhena, Mengwen Cao, D.M. Terblanche, Mohamed Hassan, Stefan Pavic, Aleruchi Kinika, Natela Grigalashvil, and Jed Bacason displayed their work alongside their mentors’ at the Paris Photo Fair, November 7-10, at the Grand Palais.
A digital exhibition will also be hosted on Polaroid’s website.
