Polaroid and Magnum Photos, two iconic names in photography are partnering to envision the future of instant photography exploring artistic and storytelling.
Announced this July 9, Polaroid, famous for its cameras and films production, and Magnum Photos have bound to celebrate instant photography. Their goal is to “redefine its boundaries” and deliver “unmatched authenticity and immediacy to our stories”.
Marine Merindol, Chief Operating Officer of Magnum Photos, celebrates a partnership that brings together “ the unique visions of Magnum photographers with the tangible and meaningful medium of Polaroid photography”. At the heart of this collaboration is the Polaroid I-2 camera, poised to shake up the world of instant photography.
Three photographers from Magnum Photos, ambassadors of this collaboration, have embraced the Polaroid I-2 camera, thought and designed to shake up the world of instant photography, to explore its technical and narrative possibilities through projects.
Enri Canaj, who examines the cultural, societal, and economic upheavals in his homeland with his project “Albania Homecoming,” remarks, ” Photographing with the Polaroid I-2 is a unique experience. Its slow process requires time to interact with the subject, light, and angle before pressing the button, making it special to me”.
Newsha Tavakolian, capturing the unknown inhabitants of a region in her project “Mount Damavand community,” and Jim Goldberg, revealing the hidden spirit of America with “Augusta community,” work to redefine the approach to instant photography to inspire new generations of photographers.
This legacy has continued since the creation of instant photography by Polaroid in the 1940s and has since been constantly reinvented, perfected, and pushed into new artistic frontiers.
