Planches Contact – Deauville : Stefano De Luigi : Zéro : return to the point Zero of impressionism

Born in 1964, the Italian Stefano De Luigi trained at the Instituto Superiore de Fotografia of Rome and began to practice in 1988. After his training, he worked at the Louvre Museum until 1996.
His life takes place between Rome, Milan and Paris. In 2000, he initiated a major project: Pornoland. To show different pornographic film studios around the world, revealing an unknown and often fantasized world. De Luigi asserted himself with a style bursting with colors, unusual decors and intense faces between real and unreal.
In 2003, with Blindness, he highlighted blind and visually impaired people.
The project, sponsored by the United Nations agency World Health Organization, won the WE.Smith Fellowship Grant.
The REA Gallery in Paris, the New York Photo Festival, the Fondazione Stelline in Milan or the museum of the Ducal Palace in Genoa are some examples of the institutions that have hosted his works.

“The Zéro project by Stefano De Luigi intends to deal with the fundamentals theories of impressionism. He criss-crossed Normandy in the footsteps of impressionist painters, who made the region famous in the whole world. The artist plays with matter and light.
The result: an unexpected revisitation that overturns the codes of representation of places frozen in the collective imagination.”Laura Serani

“If the term impressionism comes from the performative definition of the painter who translates his impressions of a landscape, a social event or the features of a person, by means of a quick gesture and touches of color that define the intimate perception of an atmosphere, the meaning of my photographic research intends to define visually, the exact moment when the reflected light imprints the image of the scene on sensible matter.”Stefano De Luigi
