Lust & Pleasure is a series freely inspired by the world of brothels between 1920 and 1930. After visiting an exhibition about Le Chabanais, one of the best known and luxurious brothels in Paris between 1878 and 1946, the photographer Pierre Magne developed a series both suave and sensual.
Sometimes provocative, sometimes disgraceful, the artist has taken plenty of liberties with the poses and the attitudes. A long way from the agency models with whom he usually had the pleasure of working, the artist had the great joy of creating this series with the “girl next door”. Sometimes slender, or plump, sometimes young or older, all of them were amateurs and many of them posing for the first time.
And what seemed to be a concern then became an advantage such that the natural reserve, the hesitant poses and the shyness added to the feeling of uneasiness…. Then the ambivalence, the dichotomy between the beauty of the place, the art, the lighting and the embarrassment of a pose, the unspeakable feeling of wanting to be there, the constraint of an indecent pose, the fear of scandal, the unease attached to nudity.
