Pierre-Elie de Pibrac is a young photographer who knows how to ally the art of portraiture with the one of reportage. First, it is his faces that strike: looking at the photographer in the eyes bothers us as a spectator. Associated with a large format presentation, these faces question us intensely, we question until today. Then the emotional dimension takes over the aesthetic and you literally get bonded with the artist.
His black-and-white reportage on Cuba is the reverse of his color portraits: the situation can be quickly left to the imagination and to melancholy. The tropical lights and banality of the subjects have an enchanting charm to which I could not resist.
Pierre – Elie is a photographer full of charm and elegance, who awaken our spirits in a salutary and delicate way to the strange destiny of a country, Cuba, which never stop fascinating.
