As part of Of Soul and Joy, a social and artistic mentoring program around photography led by Rubis Mécénat in the township of Thokoza in Johannesburg, and on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of democracy in South Africa (1994- 2024), the endowment fund presents the work of two emerging South African photographers Tshepiso Mazibuko and Sibusiso Bheka in regard to South African news.
These two photographers, beneficiaries of Of Soul and Joy since 2012, belong to the so-called “born free” generation, a term designating the black generation born after the first non-racial democratic elections in 1994, who never experienced apartheid. They are the symbol of the promise of a free and more egalitarian South Africa, which they question through their photographic practice.
