This award is being sponsored by the John Kobal Foundation and organized by Photo London in association with Residency Unlimited, a New York-based public programs .
Photo London will invite each participating gallery attending Photo London to submit up to three applications of an artist(s) from their roster that will be showing work on their booth. The winning artist will be awarded a two months residency all expenses covered at Residency Unlimited in New York in the Fall 2015.
This residency should be an opportunity that will make a difference in a young artist’s career. The criteria for an emerging artist is an artist who already has a few years of professional experience (by being represented by a gallery this confirms they are eligible). The prize is primarily aimed at artists who do not have a personal or professional connection with New York. Artists who are represented by a New York Gallery and are resident in New York will not be eligible.
The selection panel will be chaired by Sean O’Hagan, and members will include William Ewing (curator, author and former Director of the Musee de L’Eysee, Lausanne); Sid Motion, Photo London; Tobia Bezzola, Director of the Folkwang Museum, Essen; Liz Jobey (writer, journalist and a trustee of the John Kobal Foundation) + a representative of Residency Unlimited.
The Jury will review the submissions online and then visit the gallery booths on preview day (20 May) to select a winner.
The winning artist will be announced at the Photo London Awards event on 21 May.
