Here is the 2nd and last part of the review on Phot’Aubrac 2021 festival which totally enthused our correspondent Thierry Maindrault.
Not easy to find (although on the side of the road), the old-style barn of Jean Prat represents a setting where two photographically fascinating exhibitions have been housed. The duel between real nude photography that is wise and primarily aesthetic and photographs a little less neutral on sensual emotion and totally carried out without a camera and without a model. This association was a success with a scenography completely in tonality.
Phot’Aubrac 2021: Dominique Agius
Dominique Agius’s work focuses on aesthetics, graphics, the moment when light will draw the perfect curve. The bodies are only used as an accessory – essential of course – but nothing more. No provocation, no heightened sensuality or voyeurism. The purity of the lines prevail.
Phot’Aubrac 2021: Jean Baptiste Post
After ten years as a portrait and nudes photographer, this computer specialist ostensibly evolved towards the construction of digital images. The work presented in his exhibition is remarkable for its quality and rendering. Unlike Dominique, the images offer sensual bodies, a bit erotic and a bit provocative (in the imaginary sense); while they do not exist as such.
These two face-to-face exhibitions in the same place were essential. They are from now on asking many questions about the future of some form of photography.
