Our large annual group exhibition in the first half of September is the highlight of the year.
The works are exhibited in the greenhouses of the Palmarium of the Ghent University Botanic Garden. This special location is part of the GUM, the Ghent University Museum, K.L.Ledeganckstraat 35, Ghent.
My Girl with a Pearl – David Benoit
For each group exhibition, ZINKAE chooses a campaign photo that is used on the poster and in external communication. For Fotofest 2023, a portrait of David Benoit was chosen. That photo also has a special story attached to it.
This sculpture hung in the spring of 2023 as a contemporary version of “Girl with a Pearl Earring” in the Mauritshuis in The Hague, home to the best Dutch painting from the time of Rembrandt and Vermeer. The original work was moved to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam for a major retrospective of Vermeer. Through a competition, the Mauritshuis went in search of other interpretations of the work to fill the vacant space in the museum.
ZINKAE member David Benoit entered the competition with this portrait and came out as one of the winners. For example, his photo hung for a while on the site of Johannes Vermeer’s masterpiece in The Hague. This did not go unnoticed and also received a lot of attention in our local and national media.
