The symbol is “a figurative sign (…) that represents a concept, which is the image, the attribute, the emblem”. With this definition in mind, I do not look for what America symbolizes for everyone, but rather what characterizes it, what composes it and summarizes it in order to rebuilt the puzzle.
This series speaks about a certain America. Not the one of business centers, avant-garde technologies or luxurious complexes. It describes a country rooted in the past, deeper and less sanitized. There is nature, life, death, beliefs, hope. Nostalgia is cultivated to cling, to think that this homeland remains a reference for the Occidental world.
America has forged symbols to make up for its youth. Certainly. So I tried to find some.
