Between March 9 and June 10, 2018, the Cité de la Mode et du Design in Paris showcases the work of the iconic Swiss fashion photographer Peter Knapp, featuring over 100 photographs, for the most never exhibited before. This is the fourth part of the special edition of the Eye of Photography devoted to this trailblazing artist.
Thanks to the longevity of his career, Peter Knapp has been able to follow and anticipate the twists and turns in the development of fashion. The photographer has found his ideal vantage point in Paris, the capital of fashion and home to haute couture. The 1960s saw young stylists taking the plunge and creating their own fashion houses in the footsteps of Christian Dior. Guided by minimalism, functionality, and modernity, designers like André Courrèges, Pierre Cardin, Yves Saint Laurent, and Emanuel Ungaro were breaking new ground. In the late 1970s, new stars emerged in the world of fashion. Claude Montana, Thierry Mugler, and Issey Miyake wrote a new chapter in the history of fashion, marked by the spirit of futurism and the avant-garde. Peter Knapp has followed and supported their careers with great interest.
