The new year is here and in full force. Inspiration abounds – of which I was happy to find plenty during my Christmas holidays spent under the summer sun of Buenos Aires. Blue skies and strong colors should help us all begin 2012 on the right – well-adorned – foot.
A dynamic duo of Argentine photographers who know a thing or two about strong colors is Sofia Sanchez and Mauro Mongiello, who shot these striking images for TAR Magazine’s issue #6, featuring model Anna de Rijk. An indulgent moment in Venice.
In Muse’s recent winter issue, model Lindsey Wixon keeps her shades on in this shot by Will Davidson, while model Fanny François keeps herself in the shade in this image by Esperanza Moya for the magazine View of the Times’ latest winter issue.
In a beautifully and naturally lit ambiance, the talented Juergen Teller photographed model Irina Kulikova in these photos for 032c’s Winter issue.
Interpreting the chilly winter months of the region, photographer Nikolay Biryukov captured this colorful shot of model Isa Asklof for ELLE Ukraine’s January 2012 issue. And in New York, Mariano Vivanco illustrates a classic look and feel in this black and white photo of model Kendra Spears also for Muse’s winter issue.
Photographer Ben Hassett – described as “the Penn of his generation” by German Vogue, gets some movement going in this great black and white photo for their January issue, featuring model Magdalena Frackowiak.
In the US, the legendary Annie Leibovitz shot this eloquent portrait of fashion designer Marc Jacobs, as well as an image of some of his recent looks on a scaffolding for the January 2012 issue of American Vogue. For this same issue, Steven Klein captures the iconic Amber Valetta and Shalom Harlow in this image of curious role playing.
Not to be left out, French Numéro gets in more than a few strong images in their December/January issue, starting with this ethereal yet edgy double-exposed image by Sebastian Kim. Meanwhile, the other great duo Sean & Seng capture this image of model Frida Aasen lounging in a park, and the fantastic Greg Kadel keeps it strong with this shot of model Karlie Kloss.
The great lensman (appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2010) Nick Knight photographed this timeless, elegantly fluid and futuristic image of model Alexia White for W Magazine’s January 2012 issue.
And a final set of photos that were hard to resist sharing from the always intriguing shoots by Steven Meisel for Italian Vogue: in their January 2012 issue, a play on the American televised home shopping network QVC with a handful of top models, among other peculiar faces, to get the readers ready to shop for the new season.
In hopes that some of these photos bring inspiration, energy and a splash of blue sky (albeit imaginary or real) in your neighborhood as the new year begins…
