As part of Paris Photo 2014, Leica celebrates fine art photography with an exhibition of François Fontaine’s work entitled “Silenzio!”. An homage to the cinema of the 40s to today. A nostalgic and poetic voyage through the cinematic moments that have helped shape our culture. A reflection on memory, dream and fantasy. Leica Camera highlights the depth and breadth of the work produced by contemporary Leica photographers at Paris Photo. Deeply connected to its roots and to the photographers who have helped establish the legend of the brand, Leica unites past, present and future through its encounters with photographers.
« The Leica can be like a big passionate kiss, or then again like a pistol shot or the couch of a psychoanalyst » Henri Cartier-Bresson
Silenzio! by François Fontaine
This is a photographic essay on film and images from film.
A work where the film images are taken from their original medium.
An analysis of film images, the emotions and the questions they raise when they are exhibited as photographs.
A reflection on memory, dream and fantasy.
The genres, the stories, the eras overlap and merge in these photographs, echoing one another.
These are the silent witnesses of desire and fear
These are timeless images that seem to spring from the unconscious.
Blurry images, moving in their stillness, like the confused world of memory.
Mental images, troubled and troubling, questioning the eye and the mind.
Images that draw in and hypnotize with their sensual, nostalgic and universal language.
A colorful, dreamlike work in which glamour and suspense compete to pay tribute to “the seventh art.”
