The in)(between gallery showcases for the first time in Europe the work of Japanese photographer Meisa Fujishiro.
Meisa explores a variety of themes, approaches, and techniques offered by the photographic medium. His subjects range from fashion to stories about the Holy Land, passing through nude photography, portraits of family members, strangers, as well as celebrities, images of nature, historical sites, cities, minorities, mountains, travel, festivals, as well as water, fire, earth, trees, and animals. His work bears witness to his way of looking at the world, which could be summed up as “beauty scattered everywhere.” This is why he does not limit himself to any particular subject, concept, or photographic method, but instead constantly tries to diversify his palette of possibilities which inspire his photographic journey.
The exhibition Record vol. 22 focuses on the latest series by Meisa Fujishiro, published in February 2016 as best-selling Sketches of Tokyo. It brings together Tokyo cityscapes and female nudes: over 220 black-and-white photographs and 53 models. For Meisa, “Nude is nude, period.” He adds: “I don’t like using emphatic terms to talk about my nude photography. I appreciate the atmosphere and the powerful impression created by a nude body in front of my lens. Naturally, it’s fun.”
