As part of the Photo Saint Germain festival, the gallery Le Voleur d’images is presenting an exhibition dedicated to Marc Riboud, focused on his photographs taken in Asia. A Wanderer Through Asia brings together some twenty prints taken during this celebrated photographer’s long career in India, Cambodia, Nepal, China and Vietnam.
“I often think that I am not made for travelling”. Marc Riboud
A free man, curious about the world, a “wanderer” rather than a “traveller” as he himself puts it, Marc Riboud has always looked for the pleasures of life, the life on the streets, a spur-of-the-moment portrait, a misty landscape and a thousands other things… No sooner had he signed up with Magnum than he took off. This would be, in 1955, his first trip to Asia: India, where he stayed for a year, and China, for an extraordinary stay where he was surprised to find himself the only western journalist present during the time of the Great Leap Forward. This was followed by a series of assignments in Vietnam and several stays in Cambodia.
