Preview

Passionate about contemporary art, Jacques and Evelyne Deret are collectors. Recently, a new project create by the couple is born, Art [ ] Collector.

To promote the French contemporary artists, the project gathers a selection committee with other collectors and curators, who choose three laureates each year. Then, the choosen artist can be exhibited during ten days in a private space. The exhibitions is organized in partnership between galleries and collectors who lend their pieces of work. This initivative appears also as an occasion to be a meeting point between collectors and galleries.

Currently, Christine Barbe’s work is featured. Protean artist, she exhibites photographs but also drawings, paintings and videos. However, in the series Eaux Troubles and Les déplacés, the photography occupies the largest place. Downstairs, we can find her former works. Barbe created some surprising installations by using stones or wood as a material and a photosensitive emulsion. She whitewashes the materials with the chemistry and then, projects some images, as the classical analog print way. The result looks more like etching or stencing paintings. By playing with chemistry and light, the artist has reappropriated the photographic medium.

Born in 1955 in Grenoble (France), Christine Barbe studied Arts and Cinema in Paris. Her work is part of several art collections. She is represented by the Inception Gallery (Paris) and the Left Coast Gallery (Los Angeles).
