Having just finished a lovely dinner at the Palm Springs Photo Festival, sitting next to Laurie Kratochvil, the award winning picture editor and art director, I can’t help but compare the Palm Springs Photo Festival to an incredible banquet. No matter how big your plate is (the hours in a day), it is next to impossible to fit all of the courses (the workshops, seminars, lectures, portfolio reviews, symposiums, and presentations) on it. And then every spare moment is spent with old or just made new friends in the business, talking about all the things that engage us in the world of photography.
On Tuesday I spent a fascinating hour listening to Colin Westerbeck speak about “The lost Cause: A History of Art Photography”, this followed a lecture on Monday by Claire Carter on Harry Callahan, Aaron Siskind, and Fredrick Sommer, that was marked by her wonderful sense of connection to the photographers and their life.
I can’t wait for tomorrow.
