Colombian photographer Oscar Muñoz wins the Hasselblad Foundation’s Hasselblad Award 2018 and receives $ 125,000. Founded in 1979, the Hasselblad Foundation promotes ‘scientific education and research in photography and natural sciences‘.
The award ceremony will take place in Gothenburg tonight, Thursday 8 February. A symposium will also be launched the next day, on the occasion of the opening of Muñoz’s exhibition at the Hasselblad Center. Finally, a new book by Oscar Muñoz will be published by Verlag König.
Oscar Muñoz was born in the Colombian city of Popayán in 1951. At the School of Fine Arts in Cali (Colombia), he draws from photographic images. His work is durably marked by transfers between images and installations (Cortinas de baño or Ambulatorio, in 1994). He was exhibited at the Bildmuseet of Umeå in 2009 or at the Jeu de Paume in 2014. His works are part of the collections of LACMA, the Museo de Arte Moderne of Bogotá or MoMA.
