Olivier Dassault’s Wide Angles

Preview

In this Olivier Dassault exhibition on view at the Atelier Grognard in Rueil Malmaison (a suburb of Paris), young budding celebrities of the 1980s– Isabelle Huppert, Jane Birkin, Isabelle Adjani– are displayed beside tributes to famous painters and street artists. “It’s thanks to my Minolta XD7,” explains the artist. “I lived several painter’s lives. The periods succeeded each other: figurative, cubist, symbolist, hyperrealist, surrealist, impressionist, and now abstract.” His inspirations come from Lucien Clergue, Klein, Helmut Newton, Raymond Depardon, Soulages, and even Brassaï. The exhibition gathers about one hundred works; it’s a suspension, a step of sorts, to explain the evolution of his work, to create a dialogue with visitors, and to exhibit in a more intimate way the universe of creativity. The goal of Olivier Dassault? “To keep eluding the realm of certainties.”
