The Nicéphore Niépce museum and the town of Chalon-sur-Saône are looking for a director. With a collection of 3 million photographs, prints, negatives, contact sheets, historic cameras etc., the Nicéphore Niépce museum is one of the first museums in the history of photography in France. Created in 1972, it holds the Musée de France label and was directed by Paul Jay and François Cheval.
The director must have various experience as a curator or even be a chief-curator. The director will propose “a strategy of development in the short, medium and long term” by integrating the museum with the urban reconversion project of Île Saint Laurent. He or she will also develop partnerships, patronage, coordinate the scientific and technical projects of the museum or expand the teams.
The profile indicates a qualified person, having already assumed similar responsibilities in the past and with an expertise, a consultant, able to supervise a multiple team. The financial qualifications are integrated, since the director must follow the budget “in connection with the Administrative and Financial Pole Attractiveness of the Territory and the Direction of Finance”. Scientific and artistic knowledge of photography is also necessary.
