New York Solitude by Hana Jakrlova

Preview

New York: swimming through the crowds, catching the light, mingling, calling, chatting, running, wondering, working, flirting, observing, shopping, thinking, decision-making, hunting, texting, networking.

And every now and then – stop: despite the pressure, the thrill, the energy, the hunger and the desire. Stop to step outside of the jungle.

I have started my “commuting” to New York a few months after 9/11.

The decade of my love affair with the city has been marked by my own personal search. I found New York and its people both amazing and slightly scary, in their efficiency, drive and conviction. New York is very real and completely fake, at the same time, as well as both festive and lonely, and this dichotomies fascinated me. The bipolar nature of this city seems to resonate with me.

New York: Solitude is about moments of disconnection in the world where keeping connected and moving is a matter of survival; in the world which does not allow us to stop; in the world where we are never – and always – alone.
