Photoink will present Dhruv Malhotra’s series Sleepers until March 2nd. Sleepers is the second part of a work presented in 2010 at the gallery Noida Soliloquy.
An insomniac, Malhotra wanders the streets and vacant lots of the eastern suburbs of Delhi, searching for individuals who, unlike him, have managed to fall asleep, albeit under the stars on benches, makeshift beds, car hoods and rickshaws.
He invites the viewer on a treasure hunt through landscapes with surreal lighting, searching for bodies wrapped in blankets or exposed to the heat of Indian nights. While documenting the “nightlife” typical of large Indian cities, Malhotra also questions the role of the photographer, who reveals and awakens fragments of reality.
