Now on view at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University is the first major contemporary photography exhibition examining the influential concept of the Anthropocene, the time period in which humans have impacted the planet. Second Nature: Photography in the Age of the Anthropocene highlights the evolution of cognizance of humanity’s impact on the planet, exploring the complex web between humanity, industry, and ecology and recontextualizing our understanding of our past, present and future.
On view through Jan. 5, 2025, Second Nature features works by 45 emerging and established artists from around the world, including Edward Burtynsky, María Magdalena Campos-Pons, Cara Romero, Anastasia Samoylova, and Will Wilson, organized into four sections: “Reconfiguring Nature,” “Toxic Sublime,” “Inhumane Geographies,” and “Envisioning Tomorrow.”
Following the presentation at the Nasher Museum of Art, Second Nature will be on view at Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University and the Anchorage Museum in Alaska.
