Graziano Arici is moving to the Réattu Museum for the whole summer of 2021. An exhibition in parallel with the Rencontres d’Arles. The man is known for his obsession with accumulating, protecting and ensuring the conservation of photographic works. He understood that the important thing … is the works and their durability. But this installation in Réattu, he owes it to his own photographic works.
Images that speak. Familiar and agreed expression for excellent photographs which are often substitute for speech and replace long talks. But, this is not the case with Graziano’s photographs, look more attentively and you will actually hear the picture telling you something. It is not like very often a substitution of form, each of the photographs visible above tell you something, in the auditory sense. Open your eyes and ears, your brain will hear.
They don’t just talk to us, they are sincere, they are without artifice, they are spontaneous, they are our own vision at the turn of a street corner or a quick walk. Your eye saw it, the photographer’s reflex froze it for as long as possible. And then, the quality, as essential as it is indispensable, is present in each of the works with a metric dosage of light, a composition of dialogue and an exceptional management of contrasts (which is becoming increasingly rare with all these software that want to meddle in everything).
Thumbing his nose to the photographers thirsty for technology, Graziano Arici also enslaves the equipment to his needs of the moment from smartphone to prestigious camera without ever conceding the slightest thing to the ambient mediocrity.
Thanks to the Réattu Museum and to its director Daniel Rouvier who is curating this exhibition showing us noble photography, all is not lost for this year 2021 in the capital of photography.
