The new-look naturism of Mona Kuhn.
Through her portraits and scenes, Mona Kuhn likes to create a visual world of sweetness and sensual harmony. Realism escapes to the benefit of the visual transcription of the whispering and shimmering of the senses. The gallery features extracts from the last two series of the artist. “She disappeared in complete silence” becomes the transfer of the body as a narrative of presence to its abstraction in the California desert of Joshua Tree and the glass architecture of “Acido Dorado” (home of Robert Stone). The photos of “Poem” were taken in the pine forest park of les Landes de Gascogne. The photographer shows her friends, standing at the top of a ladder and aiming her lens down to break the skyline and close the “perspective” to emphasize intimacy and human form with ethereal realism soft and captivating.
Nudity is offered but in a natural way and with simplicity. Photographs of women or men alone or with their partner are reminiscent of a Puvis de Chavannes with a mixture of Courbet and Dali. A pictorial eroticism of a particular kind is born. The photo shooting escape as much symbolism as idealized and well thought realism. The destiny of the body is stripped not only of clothes but of a determined social environment. The emotion and the vision remain flexible and impertinent. The woman becomes the heroine of an aspiration to harmony in a timeless “drape”. But it is no longer the pretext for fantasies. A new day naturism points between shadow and light.
