The series Guadalquivir by Miriam Ruisseau was selected by Florence Drouhet (Festival la Gacilly) during portfolio review at the Gaite Lyrique on the 15 and 16 November 2014.
It is often said that a river is the backbone of country because, over the centuries, along its banks, men came together to build cities. In Spain, we think of the Ebo Delta because of its ties to the Civil War. A famous song, “El paso del Ebro,” immortalized the last resistance to Franco’s advance before the fall of Barcelona.
But it is another river, also legendary, but for perhaps more literary reasons, which represents a region, Andalusia, more than an entire nation: the majestic Guadalquivir.
