Since 2020, the Ministry of Culture and Visa pour l’Image have awarded two production grants each year – endowed with 8,000 euros each – to women photographers in recognition of their contribution to photojournalism.
This award pays tribute to Françoise Demulder – a great French war photographer, the first female winner of the World Press Photo in 1977. It encourages the careers of women photographers in order to compensate for their weak representation in the press sector (22.5% photographers are women, according to the 2019 statistics of the Commission for the Identity Card of Professional Journalists – CCIJP).
