The « Bicentenial of Photography » will be celebrated from September 2026 to September 2027, in tribute to Nicéphore Niepce, who, almost two hundred years ago, succeeded in obtaining, using a camera obscura, the first photographic image permanently fixed on a photosensitive surface.
The Ministry of Culture is launching a national call for projects for the « Bicentenaire de la Photographie » label. All stakeholders in photography, arts, and culture are invited to apply, proposing projects as diverse as events, exhibitions, meetings, participatory projects, publications, and educational workshops, and thus create a major cultural, popular, and festive event. Initiatives driven by a spirit of cooperation, pooling, and sharing of expertise will be favored. Deployment throughout the country and internationally is encouraged.
The certification will provide selected events with significant visibility, notably through communication campaigns and a dedicated website.
The application deadline is June 1, 2025. A second round of project certification is planned for mid-September 2025.
