The Faur Zsófi Gallery and Publisher moved to its new location after operating for more than ten years in downtown Pest. The gallery was honored to be invited to relocate to the new culture center of Buda in recognition of its professional accomplishments. The design for the nearly 300 square meter gallery was developed to evolve with the needs of the contemporary art scene and to accommodate international technical and architectural standards. The gallery’s mission is to promote the area’s emerging contemporary artists and to integrate them into the international art scene by continuing its increasingly active presence at foreign art fairs, such as Paris Photo, Viennafair, Kinetik Art Fair London, and by forgoing partnerships with other international galleries. Employing our professional printing background, which is unique in the contemporary art scene of the CEE region, the gallery publishes erudite publications and monographs about the latest developments and insights in contemporary art history in several languages. The gallery is constantly in search of the latest international trends, as well as foreign artists of emerging significance (including Bianca Regl, Adam Bota, Alfredo Barsuglia, Alexandra de Lazareff, to name a few), to introduce them to the domestic audience and to promote their work among discriminating Hungarian art collectors. In addition to painting and sculpture, the Faur Zsófi Gallery has become an indispensable player in the market for contemporary photography over the past three years and the only venue in Hungary that is dedicated to supporting Hungarian kinetic artists on the international scene. Beyond its role as a curator and promoter of fine art, the gallery and its affiliated publisher are also actively involved in early childhood development and visual education, integrating art and aesthetic values into their curriculum. In furtherance of this mission, the gallery launched a series of coloring books based on submissions from the best Hungarian artists of 2007, with each book featuring a topic which contains a unique visual world. The gallery believe projects such as this can help stimulate the innate curiosity of children, as well as for adults to appreciate the relationship between the current exhibition or issue and the theme of the coloring book. The Faur Zsófi Gallery aspires to cultivate an extensive and dedicated audience attracted to important artworks on display in a vibrant, vital and contemplative environment. At the same time, the gallery intends to continue as a stimulating and aesthetic agent of contemporary art, maintaining a pleasing “cultural space” to which our patrons happily return again and again.
Arion Gábor Kudász
Arion Gábor Kudász belongs to the young generation of Hungarian photographers. He is known for creating images that balance between documentary and staged photography. Working on long-term projects, he is interested in topics related to the exploration of urban development, environmental issues and lately in remembrance and capturing intimacy.
Two of his series are to be introduced at MIA Fair 2012.
Middle is a close inspection of the photographer’s private life. He started to photograph his new family after his wedding in order to build a portrait of the symbiosis of the different personalities and to document the change of each member throughout the years. This series is a photographic sculpture of the great days of his life, happening in the constant present, immediately fading into the twilight of memory with exaggerated or deficient elements, dead-ends and a nonlinear narrative structure.
Waste Union tends to capture the contradictory relation of nature and human enviroment. The influence of urbanization is present in open lands more than in carefully leveled inner cities. The inflation of space is most visible at the front-lines of the expanding city, where different populated areas collide. With the accumulation of garbage, dumps are about to meet. The memory of garbage heaps is present everywhere, unifying contemporary landscape. A re-cultivated mine dump is the closest we can get to the natural state. Nature does not exist anymore, so any escape into nature, or any harmony with it, is impossible. The time for hopeful utopia is gone.
